There are many great litter clean up programs available for residents and community groups who wish to be proactive and make a difference. In 2023, Region 6 supported over 50 litter clean ups and collected over 500 bags of litter.
Region 6, in partnership with Adopt-A-Highway, provide bags and gloves to municipalities for participants.
Anyone can register a clean up wither you're a individual, group, school or business. The Great NS Pick Me Up begins registration on April 11, 2022.
If you wish to do a litter clean up earlier, please contact us for more information.
Signs can be printed or ordered. For more language options, please visit www.divertns.ca
Illegal dumping is a big problem in Nova Scotia. It doesn't happen by accident and always involves intent. Illegal dumping is considered a crime and penalties reflect the seriousness of the offense ( up to $697).
It is found that most items dumped are material that could either be placed out for regular collection OR disposed of, for FREE at the proper site.
If you see or come across an illegal dumpsite, please contact your respective municipality so that bylaw enforcement staff can investigate. NEVER touch or inspect the waste.
Watch our very own educator, Angela Taylor on Land & Sea which tackles this issue.
